community theatre projects

Double Take Theatre have a proven track record of engaging local communities in high quality theatre projects.

Families Of Rotherham East (2002)

This project was comprised of a series of drama workshops for key stage 2 children which focused on difference.  A wide range of themes were explored, including individuality, marginalisation and bullying.  This ran in conjunction with the Families Of Rotherham East Parent and Toddler Group.

Extra Time (2001)

Extra Time began as a series of drama workshops with young Asian males in Eastwood, Rotherham.  The workshops explored the conflict between the first and second generations of the local Asian community through the football - themed play Extra Time.

The football theme of the show came from a popular local festival whose central event is a youth 5-aside football tournament well attended by young Asians.

Now Then, Sheffield (2000)

Now Then, Sheffield began with a city-wide distribution of questionnaires (Sheffield Speaks) which asked people for their thoughts on the Steel City.  The response was huge and from the many opinions, stories and historical facts we received, a play was written.  This was performed at the Library Theatre by a group of Sheffielders, most of whom were taking to the stage for the first time.

About the show:  This is no ordinary fight.  The title for symbol of this city is up for grabs!  The current title holder is the Vulcan who sits atop the town hall - a blast from the past who represents what Sheffield is renowned for, it's steel, it's spirit and it's smoke.  Medawl is the challenger from the services and leisure industry who wants to give Sheffield a change of image and promises a brighter future.

They are prepared to fight 'till the bitter end.  But will it be clean?  Will it be fair?  Place your bets now!

What the papers said:  "Too good to miss!  Lots of singing and dancing with a twist in the tale."  (Sheffield Telegraph)
